RLC Weekly: Standing Against Shutdown
Dear Colleagues,
As RLC Leader Rep. Madeleine Dean (PA-04) said a few weeks ago, "[Government] is not about bickering, or faux impeachment inquiries, or shutting government down... What we are doing with these historic list of investments is showing that government can work, and must work, for the people..." This week was a testament to House Democrats and the Regional Leadership Council (RLC) abiding by that focus. Here are some of the highlights.
Meeting with Treasury Deputy Secretary Wally Adeyemo
Yesterday, Members of the RLC and Chair Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) met with U.S. Department of Treasury Deputy Secretary Wally Adeyemo to discuss the Department's efforts to implement the Investing in America agenda and help Americans save money on energy costs and other expenses. The meeting centered on how the RLC can work with the Department to inform the American people about tax credits that are putting electric vehicles on the road, creating clean energy jobs, and making the tax system fair and equitable. Bringing Down Opportunities
To help implement the CHIPS and Science Act and the Inflation Reduction Act, RLCLeader Rep. Darren Soto (FL-09) coordinated a briefing with representatives from the U.S. Department of Commerce and Florida stakeholders. While Investing in America agenda is already having a great impact of Central Florida and Region 8, it is crucial to Rep. Soto and the RLC that every American has the tools they need to access it. This webinar is a great example of that effort. Read more here.
Greener Transit In The Making
RLC Leader Rep. Jared Huffman (CA-02) celebrated a critical transportation update. This week he stated on social media social media that "Greener, more accessible transportation is almost here!" for folks in Northern California. A new $31.9 million federal grant, which was made available by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, was recently secured by Sonoma-Marin Rail Transit to upgrade its fleet and clear a path for rail transit to communities around the Northern Coast.
