RLC Weekly: Prioritizing Everyday Americans
Dear Colleagues,
Amidst the latest week of dysfunction from the Republican-lead 118th Congress, House Democrats and the Regional Leadership Council (RLC) continued to drive home the strong and steady progress of the Investing in America agenda and communicate that progress to the American people. Here are a few ways the RLC showed this contrast:
Prioritizing Everyday Americans

On Wednesday night, Chair Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) and Members of the RLCdelivered remarks on the House Floor to emphasize House Democrats' focus on making life better for everyday Americans and delivering results. Each Member of the RLC outlined key investments from their corners of the country and highlighted how families are seeing lower costs, better job opportunities, and a more resilient American economy. Watch a recording of the full RLC Special Order Hour here.
Empowering Students and Workers

RLC Leader Rep. Angie Craig (MN-02) joined a conversation with Department of Education Secretary Miguel Cardona, Senator Tina Smith (D-MN), and the President of American Federation of Teachers, Randi Weingarten, to discuss career and technical education programs. Last Congress, House Democrats made historic investments in our workforce through the CHIPS and Science Act to help make it easier for Americans to access technical training and good-paying job opportunities. The technical and career programs being implemented in Minnesota are helping Region 3 workers Make it in America. Read more from Rep. Craig on this visit here.
A Major Step Forward

As part of the Biden-Harris Administration's commitment to rebuilding America's infrastructure and creating jobs, RLC Leader Rep. Robin L. Kelly (IL-02) joined U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), Rep. Mike Quigley (IL-05), and Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Administrator Nuria Fernandez to welcome the new phase of construction for the Red Line Extension (RLE) project in Chicago. This $1.947 billion federal funding represents tremendous progress, and as Rep. Kelly said, the project will "give our neighbors a better chance to achieve their dreams.” More from Rep. Kelly here.
What Else?
- The White House released new guidance this week on technical assistance resources, which will help communities unlock opportunities and deploy federal funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the Inflation Reduction Act, and more. Read more from the White House here.
- President Biden delivered a major economic speech at Prince George's Community College in Maryland, which highlighted the progress the Investing in America agenda has made to address kitchen table issues, contrasting greatly with the legislation proposed by House Republicans.
