RLC Weekly: (More) Investing in America
Dear Colleagues,
As historic funding from the Investing in America agenda is implemented across the country, the Regional Leadership Council and House Democrats are sharing the transformational impact of this long overdue investment in American workers and families. While Republicans are threatening to shut down the government, here are some of the ways House Democrats are shaping a brighter future:
Investing in America's Workers
Thanks to the CHIPS and Science Act, the world’s next wave of cutting-edge technology will be made in America. RLC Leader Rep. Darren Soto (FL-09) and Rep. Maxwell Alejandro Frost (FL-10) discussed what this means for Central Florida by hosting representatives from the U.S. Department of Commerce and NEOcity, a company that is utilizing federal funding authorized by the CHIPS and Science Act to create jobs and increase America's tech manufacturing capacity.
Rep. Paul Tonko (NY-20) also celebrated the surge in American manufacturing by joining Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY),New York Governor Kathy Hochul, and others to celebrate a $1.5 billion federal investment in semiconductor production in New York and Vermont. This single investment from the Investing in America agenda will create more American-made cars, safer economic supply chains, and lower inflation nationwide. Investing in Clean Water
House Democrats joined Vice President Kamala Harris and Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Michael Regan in touting transformational water infrastructure investments this week. Many Democrats communicated with their constituents about the $5.8 billion investment in state-run, low-interest loan programs that will help make sure kids have clean water. See an example of this outreach from RLC Leader Rep. Robin L. Kelly (IL-02) here.
Additionally, Reps. Summer Lee (PA-12) and Chris DeLuzio (PA-17) joined Vice President Harris and Administrator Regan to celebrate the impact of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law on Western Pennsylvania's water infrastructure. See more from this event here.
Investing in (More) Airports
Following a week of House Democrats celebrating transformational investments in America's airports, Rep. Greg Stanton (AZ-04) welcomed a $14.4 million grant to help build a new 5-gate terminal at Phoenix's Gateway airport. As Rep. Stanton puts it, "This investment will make travel easier and more convenient for Arizonans, and spur economic growth in Mesa."
Ranking Member Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-02) and Rep. Marylin Strickland (WA-10) also welcomed new investments at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and Spokane International Airport here and here.
