RLC Weekly: Looking Forward to the August District Work Period
Dear Colleagues,
The August District Work Period offers a great opportunity for Members to get out into their communities and inform constituents about the transformational impact of the Investing in America agenda that House Democrats helped pass last Congress. The Regional Leadership Council (RLC) hit the ground running this week. Here are some of the highlights:
Ensuring Equitable Investments

On Friday, RLC Members attended their second meeting at the White House. The conversation included updates on implementation progress and looking ahead to how Democrats can continue to promote equity as they work to advance the Investing in America agenda. Here's what Chair Hoyer said at the conclusion of the meeting: "From multiple Investing in America tours to the development of innovative and informative resources like Invest.gov, President Biden and his Administration continue to play an active role in equitably implementing and promoting the groundbreaking laws that Democrats enacted in the 117th Congress." Meeting with Secretary Gina Raimondo

U.S. Department of Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo joined the RLC on Wednesday for a conversation on the implementation of the CHIPS and Science Act, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL), and other legislation Democrats passed in the 117th Congress. During the meeting, RLC Leaders and the secretary discussed how House Democrats and the Biden-Harris Administration can continue promoting high-speed internet access through the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment Program (BEAD), workforce development training, and competitive grant programs that will create jobs and transform communities across the country into hubs of technology and innovation. Learn more about the meeting here.
The RLC is hard at work bringing the promise of these programs back to their districts. Recently, RLC Leader Rep. Robin L. Kelly (IL-02) announced that Olive-Harvey College received a $18.5 million grant from the Department of Commerce to help support workforce development and a strong local economy. Learn more here.
Getting Out Into the Community

RLC Leaders Rep. Jared Huffman (CA-02) and Lori Trahan (MA-03) got a headstart on the August District Work Period by meeting with their constituents and hearing their stories. Rep. Huffman helped secure a $31.5 million grant from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to help electrify Marin County's transit and continue addressing the climate crisis. In addition, watch this clip of Rep. Trahan talking directly to her district on Boston's flagship Sunday show about the work she is doing in Congress. You can watch the full interview here.
