RLC Weekly: Localizing Bidenomics

Dear Colleagues,

Following a busy District Work Period with many House Members participating in the Investing in America tour, the Regional Leadership Council (RLC) worked to inform the American people about the Investing in America agenda and identify funding opportunities that will impact their communities for years to come. Here are some of the highlights:

Meeting with Secretary Pete Buttigieg

The RLC welcomed Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg to the Capitol this week to hear how the Investing in America agenda is rebuilding America's roads and bridges, improving airports and harbors, and making broadband and public transportation access more equitable. During the meeting, Secretary Buttigieg, Chairman Hoyer, and RLC Members discussed how House Democrats and the Biden-Harris Administration can continue working together to ensure every American can access these historic investments. Increasing Access to Education

RLC Region 9 Leader Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester (DE-AL) recently toured the new headquarters for the Christina Cultural Arts Center (CCAC) in Wilmington, DE, which was made possible by the American Rescue Plan. This is a great example of showing the long-term impact of the Investing in America agenda as it continues to touch more lives and help young people Make It in America. Strengthening Energy Grids and Lowering Costs

RLC Region 7 Leader Rep. Troy Carter’s (LA-02) team welcomed Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm in New Orleans, LA, during the Office of Small & Disadvantaged Business Utilization’s Small Business Forum and Exposition. This event allowed local leaders to gain the tools they needed to access the $68.7 million made available to Louisiana state and local governments and spur investment in clean energy and build energy efficiency. More information on this event can be found here

Localizing Bidenomics

As more and more economic data confirms the strength of the American economy, RLC Region 8 Leader Rep. Darren Soto (FL-09) wrote an op-ed in the Orlando Sentinel about the economic progress that Central Florida has experienced through the aid of federal investment. As Rep. Soto states: “The results of Bidenomics are undeniable. Our nation has come back from the economic brink we experienced during the pandemic and is on the road to prosperity.” Read it here.

What’s Next?

  • The U.S. Energy Department has designated $207.6 million in grants to improve grid resilience. RLC Region 2 Leader Rep. Jared Huffman (CA-02) recently acknowledged how this funding is a much-needed step in the right direction to reach America's climate goals. Read more on this funding here

  • The Department of Commerce and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) announced a $5 million funding opportunity to help communities address extreme heat. This program is a part of President Biden’s Justice40 Initiative. Read more about the administration's efforts to combat heat this summer here.
