RLC Weekly: Keeping Implementation Strong
Dear colleagues,
As House Republicans signal more tax cuts to the wealthy and draconian cuts to Medicare and Social Security, House Democrats and the Biden-Harris Administration are continuing to inform the American people about their investments in America. Here are the recent ways that House Democrats have been at the forefront of implementation this week:
Celebrating the Nationwide Impact of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law
As the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law turns three years old, Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-02) asked his fellow House Democrats about the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law projects that have made an impact in their congressional district. From the flood resiliency funding in RLC Leader Rep. Troy A. Carter's district (LA-02) to a stronger bridge in Rep. Steve Cohen's (TN-07), the BIL is making the economy work for Americans across the country. Watch this video here.
The Regional Leadership Council and the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Democrats encourage you to use this template report to help your office capture the impact of transportation investments in your community. Keeping Good Jobs Here in America
Democrats from the New Hampshire Congressional Delegation welcomed the Biden-Harris Administration's continued implementation of CHIPS Funding for BAE Systems over the holiday weekend. Thanks to the finalization of $35.5 million in CHIPS funding, BAE is one step closer to supercharging its production of computer chips, which Rep. Chris Pappas (NH-01) says will help New Hampshire continue to be "an epicenter of technology, innovation, and manufacturing." Read more on this latest round of funding from Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH), Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), and Rep. Annie Kuster (NH-02) here.
Finishing The Job
As more newspapers report on the costs of repealing the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and what it means for workers across the country, House Democrats are protecting the IRA and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law as it continues to lower energy costs, create good jobs, and build up America's clean energy economy. Senator Ed Markey (D-MA), Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14), and Rep. Melanie Stansbury (NM-01) sent a letter to President Biden this week encouraging the administration to "move expeditiously to disburse key climate and clean energy programs" from the Investing in America agenda in order to "avoid future politicization or manipulation of climate programs." The letter was also signed by 46 other House members, including Rep. Pramila Jayapal (WA-07) and RLC Leader Rep. Jared Huffman (CA-02). See more on this letter here and here.
What Else?
- The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has reported that it eliminated 227 million pounds of pollution in communities overburdened by pollution this past year, the highest total ever. Read more from their Annual Enforcement and Compliance Assurance Results here.
- The U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) announced a historic $849 million investment from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law for 77 water projects in the Western United States and Great Plains. See how this funding will revitalize aging systems here.
