RLC Weekly: House Democrats United in Delivering for All Americans

October 6, 2023

Dear Colleagues,

House Democrats and the Regional Leadership Council (RLC) continue to find ways to inform their constituents about the Investing in America agenda and highlight how its implementation is improving lives in communities nationwide. Here are some of the highlights:

Advancing Environmental Justice

This morning, Chair Rep. Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) and RLC Leader Rep. Troy A. Carter (LA-02) marked the one-year anniversary of the Biden-Harris Administration's formation of the Office of Environmental Justice and External Civil Rights (OEJECR). This office ensures that our strategy for addressing the climate crisis prioritizes equity. As these RLC Members noted, "Investing in America means investing in all of America." All Members of the RLC are committed to ensuring these transformative climate policies and programs reach every American, especially in historically underserved communities that have too often been overlooked. Coming to the Table for Seniors

Thanks to the work of House Democrats and the Biden-Harris Administration, ten drug manufacturers have agreed to negotiate with Medicare to give America's seniors a fair price on prescription drugs. Many House Democrats celebrated this development by posting on their social media and reminding their constituents that Democrats will do what it takes to make health care more affordable. Read statements from RLC Leaders Rep. Angie Craig (MN-02) and Rep. Lori Trahan (MA-03) here and here.

More Broadband Projects for Tribal Nations

RLC Leader Rep. Derek Kilmer (WA-06) commended the U.S. Department of Commerce National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) for awarding broadband infrastructure funding to Tribal communities in the Pacific Northwest. Two Tribal nations, the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe and Skokomish Indian Tribe, will each receive half-a-million dollars through the Tribal Broadband Connectivity Program (TBCP), which was made possible by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. As Rep. Derek Kilmer said, this funding will help these Tribal communities "compete for new economic opportunities, empower students to learn, strengthen health outcomes by enabling tele-health opportunities, and bridge the digital divide." More from Rep. Kilmer on this announcement can be found here and here.
