RLC Weekly: Honoring Our PACT This Veterans Day

November 10, 2023

Dear Colleagues,

Ahead of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s two-year anniversary, the Regional Leadership Council (RLC) and House Democrats are continuing to implement the Investing in America agenda and build a resilient, inclusive economy amidst attempts by extreme MAGA Republicans to clawback these important policies. Here are some of the highlights:

Honoring Our PACT This Veterans Day

Many House Democrats and RLC Members are reaching out to Veterans and military families this week to inform them about PACT Act benefits. RLC Leader Rep. Lori Trahan (MA-03) shared this survey with her constituents – highlighting that over 10,000 Massachusetts Veterans have been able to access expanded health care benefits related to toxic exposures. Meanwhile, RLC Leader Rep. Troy A. Carter (LA-02) is planning a Curbside "For The Love of Veterans" event to get the word out on these historic benefits in New Orleans, LA. These are just two of the many examples of House Democrats ensuring that people know who is delivering for Veterans and helping the Department of Veterans' Affairs set all-time records for care and benefits.

Working to End Gun Violence

This week, the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force met with the Biden-Harris Administration's Office of Gun Violence Prevention to discuss ongoing efforts to implement gun prevention policies such as the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (BSCA) and save American lives. As families in Lewiston, ME, are still reeling from yet another tragic mass shooting, RLC Leader Rep. Robin L. Kelly (IL-02) said she was "grateful that the Biden-Harris Administration has doubled down on their commitment to end gun violence." Building Faster, More Reliable Rail

Immediately following the Biden-Harris Administration's announcement of 25 public transportation projects through the Northeast Corridor, RLC Members and House Democrats began touting how investments from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will change the lives of thousands of Americans who depend on passenger rail. As RLC Leader Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester (DE-AL) said, "This means faster and more reliable service and the promise of good-paying, union jobs." See RLC statements here and here.
