RLC Weekly: Finding Resolve in the Work
Dear Colleagues,
Amidst an unprecedented week of global tragedy and dysfunction in the U.S. Congress – it is now more important than ever to show the world what an effective, united government can do. Here are some of the latest highlights of the Investing in America agenda reaching communities across America:
Engaging the Community
House Democrats and the RLC continue to inform people about the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) in an effort to expand high-speed internet access in every community. RLC Leader Rep. Robin L. Kelly (IL-02) introduced legislation to make grants that allow states to better inform Medicaid enrollees, SNAP participants, and low-income residents about the internet savings that come from the ACP and other programs. Meanwhile, Rep. Shontel Brown (OH-11) and Rep. Jasmine Crockett (TX-30) each held events to inform constituents about how the ACP is lowering costs for families in their districts.
The RLC continues to encourage Members to get the word out about the Investing in America agenda and its impact on lowering internet bills. Please reach to your RLC Region Leader to find district-specific reports and graphics for further guidance on how to maximize outreach on the ACP.
Sharing Continued Investment
RLC Leaders Rep. Robin L. Kelly (IL-02) and Rep. Troy A. Carter (LA-02), and Rep. Salud Carbajal (CA-24) highlighted the increased investments in roads, bridges, and electric vehicle infrastructure in their communities thanks to the Investing in America Agenda. Rep. Kelly applauded the Federal Highway Administration’s announcement of $1.95 million in funding for Illinois infrastructure. Reps. Carter and Carbajal shared that the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is providing critical funding to help expand EV infrastructure in their home states. House Democrats continue to show that these investments are in stark contrast to the chaos and dysfunction currently griping the House Republican Conference.
Lowering Costs for Students
The American Rescue Plan (ARP) continues to transform communities. RLC Leader Rep. Darren Soto (FL-09) shared that Central Florida students can receive free college tuition at two area colleges, thanks to a program made possible by the ARP. From helping Americans recover from a global pandemic to expanding higher education opportunities, the Investing in America agenda is continuing to ensure every American has the resources they need to succeed.
