RLC Weekly: District Work Period Resources + One Million PACT Act Claims Approved!
Dear Colleagues,
House Democrats and Members of the Regional Leadership Council (RLC) continue to see the progress of President Biden's Investing in America agenda in their communities. As House Democrats honor America's heroes this Memorial Day and look ahead to the District Work Period, the RLC will continue highlighting the implementation of the laws passed in the 117th Congress. Here are the highlights from this week:
Celebrating One Million PACT Act Claims Approved
Many House Democrats and the RLC amplified President Biden's announcement that over 1 million PACT Act related claims have been approved for Veterans and Military families. Rep. Ann McLane Kuster (NH-02) joined President Biden in New Hampshire to announce this critical milestone and "recognize the positive impact the PACT Act is having on more than 4,000 Granite State veterans."
Members also used district data to highlight the number of Veterans this law has impacted since August 2022. Rep. Joe Courtney (CT-02) spoke on the House Floor about his recent district visit where he discussed the implementation of the PACT Act. RLC Leader Rep. Darren Soto (FL-09) met with his local Veterans Advisory Board to discuss what Democratic policies are doing for Veterans' health care. The RLC continues to encourage Members to tell the story of the PACT Act during the upcoming District Work Period.
Highlighting the Cost of the ACP Expiring
House Democrats continue to sound the alarm about the grave consequences of House Republicans' refusal to extend the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP). During a House Energy and Commerce committee hearing, Rep. Kim Schrier (WA-08) spoke about the 1 in 8 households in Washington that have saved money on their internet bills through the ACP. Rep. Brad Schneider (IL-10) spoke on the House Floor about how 21,000 people in his district have enrolled in the ACP. The RLC will continue to update district-level data to help every community tell the story of the direct impacts of the Investing in America agenda.
Updating Constituents on Implementation Progress
House Democrats uplifted the success of the Investing in America agenda in their own words this week. RLC Chair Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) published an oped in The Washington Times highlighting the transformational infrastructure advancements Marylanders are seeing as a result of Democrats' Investing in America agenda. Rep. André Carson (IN-07) penned an oped in the Indianapolis Recorder amplifying historic investments in water infrastructure that are "removing lead from drinking water, once and for all." Rep. Mike Quigley (IL-05) also discussed public transportation investments from the Biden-Harris Administration in the Chicago Tribune here.
