As Republicans Threaten Shutdown, Chair Hoyer Releases Video Showcasing House Democrats Investing in America

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05), Chair of the Regional Leadership Council (RLC), released the following video highlighting House Democrats’ work to showcase the historic investments made possible by the legislation enacted during the 117th Congress. While Republicans are threatening to shut down the government, this video demonstrates how the work of House Democrats efforts stand in sharp contrast as Members tout the Investing in America agenda to lower prescription drug costs, create better-paying jobs, and tackle climate change.

The Regional Leadership Council is working tirelessly to make sure Americans in every corner of the country are seeing and feeling the impacts of the Investing in America agenda that Democrats delivered last Congress. Recently, Chair Hoyer and Members of the RLC delivered remarks on the House Floor to highlight how these investments are directly impacting families across the nation’s 12 diverse regions, rebuilding the middle class, and giving hardworking Americans the tools they need to get ahead.

"As my House Republican colleagues are frozen in their own dysfunction and have threatened a government shutdown, House Democrats have shown they are stepping up to reduce health care costs, raise wages, and create jobs," said Chairman Steny H. Hoyer. “It's clear that the Investing in America agenda is working. America's seniors savings hundreds of dollars a year on medications like insulin and other life-saving medications. Thousands of America's veterans are receiving long-overdue health benefits related to Agent Orange and burn pits. Additionally, there are infrastructure projects starting all across the country, ensuring clean drinking water, high-speed internet, and safe roadways in every community. As more and more of these investments are delivered by the Biden-Harris Administration, the RLC remains hard at work ensuring every American sees and feels this historic economic recovery."

Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries created the Regional Leadership Council in January 2023 and appointed Congressman Hoyer to serve as chair. The council consists of twelve Members who each represent one of the United States' twelve regions. The council is working to ensure that Americans in every corner of the country and in every zip code can access the opportunities created by the historic policies that Democrats secured in the 117th Congress, including the American Rescue Plan, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the CHIPS and Science Act, the Inflation Reduction Act, the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, the Honoring Our PACT Act, and many others.
