WASHINGTON, DC – Members of the Regional Leadership Council (RLC) and its Chair, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05), attended a meeting with at the White House to share recent implementation updates related to the Investing in America agenda. They discussed how Democrats can continue to promote new programs that help lower costs for Americans and advance America’s climate goals. The meeting also focused on the recent "Investing in America Week of Action," an organized effort by the RLC and House Democratic Policy and Communications Committee that inspired House Democrats to hold over 160 district events highlighting federal funding nationwide and the positive effects of the laws that Democrats enacted in the 117th Congress.
Participants in the meeting included White House Deputy Chief of Staff Natalie Quillian, Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Wally Adeyemo, Senior Advisor to the President John Podesta, and Assistant to the President and Director of the Office of Legislative Affairs Shuwanza Goff. Chairman Hoyer and the RLC’s representatives described recent groundbreakings, walking tours, and ribbon cuttings that are happening in their local communities and across their regions. From helping taxpayers save money on tax filing through the IRS's new Direct File tool to helping Americans connect to clean energy tax credits, today's meeting reaffirmed that the RLC and the Biden-Harris Administration will continue moving in lockstep to ensure the Investing in America agenda leaves no community behind. Chairman Hoyer also laid out the RLC’s upcoming priorities and joined in discussing how the Biden-Harris Administration and the Council can best continue their close coordination going forward.
“I was pleased to meet with our partners in the Biden-Harris Administration today to talk about the success of the Investing in America Week of Action and House Democrats’ work to ensure folks in every community can see and feel the impacts of the historic laws we passed in the last Congress,” said Chair Hoyer. “Ever since Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries established the RLC in January 2023, our Members have worked tirelessly to make sure that new bridges and factories go up, costs go down, and workers and families across the country have the tools they need to Make It In America. It’s clear from today’s meeting, and our previous meetings with Cabinet secretaries and administration officials, that the Biden-Harris Administration shares that same steadfast commitment. We are glad to have enthusiastic partners in the White House ready to help deliver these federal funds to every corner of the country.”
Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries created the Regional Leadership Council in January 2023 and appointed Congressman Hoyer to serve as its Chair. In addition to Congressman Hoyer, the council consists of twelve Members who each represent one of the United States' twelve regions. The council is working to ensure that Americans in every corner of the country and in every zip code can access the opportunities created by the historic policies that Democrats secured in the 117th Congress, including the American Rescue Plan, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the CHIPS and Science Act, the Inflation Reduction Act, the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, the Honoring Our PACT Act, and many others.
